What are integrated LED light fixtures?
In short, an integrated LED light fixture is a light fixture that has a permanent LED light attached to it. Old-style light fixtures allow you to change the bulb when the light is blown or fails, however, integrated fittings remove that option as once the LED is blown the fixture needs to be replaced.
Long life LEDs
However, LED light bulbs can last a long time, especially when compared to old-style incandescent and CFL or fluorescent lighting. LED bulbs can last around 50,000 hours or 20-25 times longer than a halogen bulb or 10 times longer than a CFL. To put this into a real-life situation, if you used the light from 5 to 10 pm every day your bulb would last 10,000 days or a bit over 27 years. Not many electrical appliances last that long.
This is why light fixture manufacturers have opted to integrate LED lights into their fixtures. There is a debate around whether this is placing an expiration date on the light itself as if there is a problem with the LED then the entire fixture is rendered useless. Although considering the long life of the LED this is rarely an issue.
Manufacturers are embracing this new technology as it allows them to create some very dynamic and unique-looking light solutions.
