Smoke alarms that work when it matters. Brooks and Ajax FireProtect, chosen for proven reliability.
Smart detection. Ajax FireProtect senses smoke, heat, and optionally carbon monoxide. Dual-spectrum sensors distinguish smoke from steam, reducing false alarms.
Connected to your security system. Activations report through your Bosch or Ajax alarm system. Silence false alarms from your phone or alarm panel. 24/7 back-to-base monitoring available through our A1 Grade monitoring station.
Compliance done for you. Compliance certificates issued by our licensed electricians. Selling, leasing or renewing a lease means full Queensland compliance is required now. Owner-occupier compliance is required by 1 January 2027.
Queensland families were impacted by more than 1,600 house fires in 2024. A working smoke alarm gives you the warning you need to get out.
This is why we install Brooks smoke alarms and Ajax FireProtect. We have been installing Brooks smoke alarms since 2012. We have them in our own homes, protecting our families.
We install standalone interconnected smoke alarms, and we integrate smoke alarms into alarm systems. Activations report through the alarm system, and can be backed by our A1 Grade monitoring station for response when you can’t be contacted.
Both have earned their place through years of reliable performance on Alltronic sites. We trust them and we install them in our own homes.
Queensland’s high humidity is hard on inferior smoke alarms, driving false alarms and premature failures. Both brands we install are built to cope with it.
Brooks smoke alarms have been the standard for hardwired residential installation in Australia for decades. We have been installing them since 2012 and they remain our default for standalone systems and for integration with Bosch alarm systems.
Brooks is the right choice when you want a smoke alarm that simply works, year after year.
Ajax FireProtect is the smart smoke alarm option. We are certified Ajax installers, and we install FireProtect alongside Ajax security systems, so smart smoke and heat detection runs through the same hub and app that runs your alarm.
Ajax FireProtect is the right choice when you want smart detection, app control, and a smoke alarm that is fully integrated with your Ajax security system.
For homes without an existing alarm system, we install Brooks interconnected smoke alarms across the property. When one alarm activates, every alarm sounds.
This is the most common installation for owner-occupied homes meeting current compliance and for rental properties at lease renewal.
For homes already using a Bosch alarm system, we install Brooks smoke alarms integrated into the alarm panel. Smoke alarm activations report through the system, triggering your external siren and strobe alongside the smoke alarm sound.
If your system is back-to-base monitored, our A1 Grade monitoring station receives the activation and acts on it, including when no one is home.
For homes using an Ajax security system, we install Ajax FireProtect across the property. Every FireProtect device reports individually through the Ajax hub, so you know which alarm has activated and why.
Notifications come straight to the Ajax app. Activations also trigger your external siren and strobe, and route to our A1 Grade monitoring station when back-to-base monitoring is in place.
Licensed electricians for every hardwired installation, with a smoke alarm compliance certificate issued on completion.
A smoke alarm wakes the people inside the house. A monitored smoke alarm gets a response moving even when no one is home.
When your smoke alarms are integrated with your alarm system and back-to-base monitored, every activation reports to our A1 Grade monitoring station, 24 hours a day. Our operators see the activation, follow your agreed response plan, and act. That can mean calling you, calling your nominated contacts, or escalating to emergency services.
Fire moves fast. The difference between an alarm that sounds in an empty house and an alarm that reaches a monitoring station can be the difference between damage and total loss.

Detection, integration and monitoring, installed and certified by one licensed team.
We install both smoke and heat detectors in garages, laundries, and e-bike and lithium battery charging areas. Heat detectors react to the rapid temperature rise that can precede a fire or battery explosion, giving early warning.
Integrated installations trigger your external siren and strobe alongside the internal alarm sound. Neighbours and emergency services know there’s a fire, not just the people inside.
On Ajax FireProtect installs, every device is identified separately. You know exactly which alarm has activated, where it is, and why.
Silence a false alarm from the Ajax app or Brooks wall-mount control.
Connect your smoke alarms to our A1 Grade monitoring station for 24/7 response. Action happens whether you are home or not, contactable or not.
Licensed electricians for hardwired installation. Certified Ajax installers for FireProtect.

It’s one of our most-read blog posts, because smoke alarm frustration is real. A nuisance alarm, one that sounds without smoke or fire, is the most common reason people disable their alarms, and a disabled smoke alarm protects no one.
Nuisance alarms usually come down to a low-quality alarm, poor positioning, or an alarm past its 10-year life. Which is exactly why the alarm you choose, and the way it’s installed, matters.
Queensland has the most specific smoke alarm legislation in Australia. Here is what it requires, what triggers compliance, and what it means for your property.
By 1 January 2027, every Queensland home must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms that comply with AS 3786-2014. Ionisation alarms do not comply.
Alarms must be either 240v hardwired or powered by a non-removable 10-year battery. New builds and substantial renovations require hardwired alarms. Any existing 240v hardwired alarm must be replaced with a 240v hardwired alarm, installed by a licensed electrician.
Full compliance is required now, not 2027. Before a property is sold, leased, or a lease is renewed, the smoke alarm installation must meet the current legislation. When selling, the vendor lodges a compliance form with the Queensland Land Registry.
If you are preparing a property for sale or lease, this is the single most common reason our smoke alarm work is booked. Contact us and we will confirm what your property needs.
Alarms must be positioned on the ceiling, and must not be within 300mm of a corner or light fitting, or within 400mm of an air-conditioning vent or the blades of a ceiling fan. The Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 sets additional requirements for stairwells, sloping ceilings and exposed beams.
Landlords must test and clean every smoke alarm within 30 days before the start or renewal of a tenancy, and must replace any alarm that is not working or is more than 10 years old, including during a tenancy.
Tenants must test and clean their smoke alarms at least once every 12 months.
We work with landlords and property managers across Brisbane and South East Queensland to keep rental properties compliant, with compliance certificates issued on every hardwired installation.
Queensland-registered caravans and motorhomes require a photoelectric smoke alarm when registration starts or transfers, and all Queensland-registered caravans and motorhomes must have one by 1 January 2027.
For 240v hardwired smoke alarms, Queensland law requires the electrical work to be carried out by a licensed electrician, who issues a Certificate of Testing and Compliance under the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013. Wireless and battery-powered alarms can legally be installed without one.
Press and hold the test button until the alarm sounds.
On Ajax systems, FireProtect runs a self-test and reports its status through the app, including low battery and a dirty smoke chamber, so you know about a problem before it becomes one.
The battery can’t be changed in a lithium battery smoke alarm, and the whole alarm is replaced at 10 years.
Some hardwired alarms have a replaceable 9V backup battery; swap it yearly or when the low-battery chirp sounds.
From its manufacture date, printed on the body of the alarm. Sensors degrade with age regardless of battery condition.
Vacuum gently around the vents to keep dust out of the sensor.
Landlords must test and clean within 30 days before each tenancy starts or renews. Tenants must test and clean at least once every 12 months.
The same family-owned team has installed and monitored home security across South East Queensland since 1992.
We install, integrate and certify smoke alarms across the South East corner, and work with property managers to keep rental portfolios compliant.
Talk to us about your property and we will advise on what you require for smoke alarm compliance.
Anyone can install a battery-powered or wireless smoke alarm in Queensland. Hardwired 240v smoke alarms are different: only a licensed electrician can install, replace or remove them. Alltronic holds Electrical Licence 84729, and our installations cover both hardwired and wireless interconnected systems.
Not in every case. New builds and substantial renovations require 240v hardwired smoke alarms, and an existing 240v hardwired alarm must be replaced with a 240v hardwired alarm, installed by a licensed electrician. Otherwise, alarms powered by a non-removable 10-year battery comply, and a home can run a combination of both.
A licensed electrician. For 240v hardwired smoke alarms, the Certificate of Testing and Compliance is issued under the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 and confirms the electrical work is safe and compliant. Every hardwired installation Alltronic completes includes this certificate.
It depends on your home’s layout. The legislation requires one in every bedroom, one in any hallway connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home, and at least one on every level. A four-bedroom, two-storey home typically needs six or more. We confirm the exact count for your property when we quote the work.
By 1 January 2027, every Queensland home must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms complying with AS 3786-2014, in every bedroom, connecting hallways and on every level. Homes being sold or leased must comply now. Ionisation alarms do not meet the standard.
Not yet, unless a trigger event happens. Owner-occupied homes purchased before 1 January 2022 must meet the existing standard (a working smoke alarm on each level) until the home is sold, leased, or 1 January 2027 arrives, whichever comes first. Upgrading early means the deadline never becomes a problem.
